Flip the Senate and Help in the Community

I’m sure we were all inspired by Dr. Fauci’s bold statement that the best way to combat COVID-19 is to get active in our community, help our neighbors, and hand Trump and the Trumpists* a humiliating defeat in Nov.

So following his brave lead, we have the following Take Action updates below. Read on, be inspired, make a difference! In this time of crisis, be the type of person you want your grandkids to read about in history books!

* ok… he didn’t actually say that, but you know he was thinking it

San Carlos! Yes, COVID-19 is scary, but none of our neighbors or our neighborhood businesses should fear for their security, their homes, their next meal, or their stability.

Not in our community. Not on our watch.

These are tough times for all of us, no doubt. But there is always something you can do. There is always someone you can help.

We are asking the San Carlos City Council for a moratorium on commercial development so the community can have a discussion on building more housing.

  • Over 2M sq ft of new commercial/office space development is planned for San Carlos
  • This may result in over 6,000 new jobs created in San Carlos
  • There is no plan to accommodate all these new workers; where will they live? how will they commute?
  • We ask for a moratorium on new commercial development; we want to have a community dialog on how to build more housing for essential workers and new workers in San Carlos.

Swing Left’s 2020 mission is to win all the Houses in 2020 – the White House, the Senate, the House, and the State Houses key to rolling back Republican gerrymandering! We’ve identified eleven “Super States” where the most important of these battles are concentrated: AZ, CO, TX, FL, PA, ME, WI, MI, OH, GA, NC, OH.

Kelly will explain why the Super States are so important to this fight and will report on the steps that NDRC took during the 2018 election cycle to advance legal action, build political infrastructure, and win targeted elections to achieve a fairer redistricting process.

Moratorium on Commercial Development; San Carlos Needs Housing

  • This may result in over 6,000 new jobs created in San Carlos

More housing say San Carlos community of residents, teachers and businesses

Two millions sq ft of new office space coming to San Carlos. Where will these workers live? How will the community deal with the increase in traffic?

Teachers, first responders, and service workers are being priced out of San Carlos, as are renters.

A cross-community group of residents, business, teachers, and non-profits will voice their support for MORE housing in San Carlos at the upcoming council meeting.

There is a housing crisis in the Bay Area and the San Carlos community wants to lead the charge to solve it.

The San Carlos community will be asking the council for a more aggressive plan to address the housing crisis, make room for all members of our community, and ensure that new commercial developments are accompanied by new housing developments

When: Monday April 8
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: 600 Elm St (San Carlos City Hall)

Email template on essential housing

Subject: Need for more essential housing in San Carlos

Dear San Carlos City Council

New commercial developments in San Carlos will bring in thousands of new workers and exacerbate the ongoing housing crisis. This will drive up costs for our neighbors who rent, as well as make home affordability harder for our teachers, nurses, police officers, children returning from college; all those who play an essential role in making San Carlos the great community that it is.

We therefore request the San Carlos City Council work with commercial developers, non-profit developers and the community to come up with a plan to address the city’s current and looming housing crisis.

We want San Carlos to be the City of Good Living for all.
